The tests develop the work for novices by laying down the essential technical rhythmic skills and gradually building a comprehensive tap vocabulary. Tapper’s are given the opportunity to enter examinations in each of the tests, although they are not compulsory, it provides a sense of achievement at the new skills learnt.
It is important to wear loose clothing that you feel comfortable in and that allows you to move freely such as dance trousers or jogging pants with a t-shirt. Black Oxford tap shoes can be ordered from your Barton’s teacher to provide a completely different dancing experience.

Adult ballet
Adult ballet classes offer a fun way to tone and tighten the body while learning the fundamental techniques of ballet. We offer something for every age group, from young adults to seniors. Whether you have never danced before, or are a former dancer and want to return to ballet after several years, your Barton’s teacher will tailor each of the exercises to your individual ability, and any physical restrictions can be taken into account.
Classes are structured the same as classes for younger dancers, beginning at the barre for warming up, then progress to the centre for bigger movements. Taking part in an adult ballet class is good for your body as well as your mind. Besides promoting cardiovascular fitness and good posture, ballet is very enjoyable for people of all ages aiming to strengthen and tone your body, improve flexibility and most of all, to have fun.
If you feel conscious wearing ballet tights and a leotard, simply wear a T-shirt and dance trousers or jogging pants. Make sure you wear something that allows you to move freely that you feel comfortable in. Ballet shoes in either leather or canvas can be ordered from your Barton’s teacher.

It is easy to appreciate the many benefits of dance in maintaining healthy lifestyle and a trim figure, and that the creativity of dance stimulates the mind, body and senses.
The fun and liveliness of the Latin American dances hold a strong appeal for people of all ages. From the energetic Jive to the the classic rumba, and rhythmic samba, Latin American dances provide an irresistible challenge to the keen dancer.
Adults of all ages find the activity of dance relaxes the mind, uplifts spirits and invigorates the body, making it an altogether great leisure activity. With the realisation that activity is essential to a healthy lifestyle, dance is a wonderful way of making friends and enjoying a social evening in a warm and friendly atmosphere.
