Jill Bridger’s Melody Movement syllabus is a music and movement program of creative
and inspiring pre-school dance classes which can be adapted to all abilities. The
focal point of Melody Movement is dancing teddy, Melody Bear who has helped create
a unique and magical approach to dance for the very young. Jill says, “Melody Movement
instils a love of dance making it a positive element of their early lives which stays
with them. They learn from a young age how music, movement, dance and the imagination
can be combined to tell a story and convey emotions.”
Melody Bear Aims
Melody Movement introduces children to dance and movement using the natural actions
of the body such as running, walking, jumping, hopping, skipping and galloping. It
is structured to aid children’s physical development, coordination, spatial awareness,
sensory development, creativity and self-expression, working individually, with a
partner, or as a group. Melody Movement also introduces children to other fundamental
curriculum learning skills such as counting, colour and shape recognition, vocabulary
and language skills. The strength of the system is that learning is achieved through
imaginative movement which is enjoyable and fun.
Children participating in the Melody Bear movement classes are encouraged
to wear the uniform of the ISTD Primary ballet syllabus as detailed below.
This enables them to become accustomed to wearing the leotard and
ballet shoes that are required when they move up to the
ISTD Primary ballet class after their fifth birthday.
Female: 'Enrico' style cotton lycra leotard in Kingfisher Blue with matching ISTD
pink ballet socks and pink satin ballet shoes with ribbons.
Male: White leotard or t-shirt with black shorts, white socks, black or white shoes
